Great Grandma Stork

This is a photo of Great Grandma Stork, Grandma Schettler's mother. This photo was taken in August of 1958 right after Donna was born. That's me sitting on Mom's lap. I believe this was photo was at Mom and Dad's in Lidderdale. I remember those blinds and curtains on the windows because Mom used them again in the house in Breda.

This is a neat picture Debbie. Do you know how old Great Grandma Stork was when she died? Also, I'd kind of forgotten where you lived before you moved to the farm in Anita? What did Merle do when you lived in Breda? Was the farm a part of his family? Give us a little history lesson!

No, I don't know her age at the time of her death. Maybe someone in the family reading this can answer that question. All I know was that she was in her 90's.

Mom and Dad rented a farm in Lidderdale and Breda before they bought the farm in Anita. Buying a farm was a BIG deal because Dad would no longer be under the watchful eye of a landlord.

I did a little research and found out that Sister Myrene took care of Great Grandma Stork for few years until sometime in 1974. I am assuming that is the year that Great Grandma passed away. Sister Myrene is one of Grandma Schettler's sisters. She had another sister who was also a nun but I don't recall her name.

That is Sr. Muriel. I just remember that we always had a fun time coming to visit and playing in that grove behind your house. I'm sure it was very exciting for them when they had their own place.

Patti, did you or any of your brothers and sister visit Grandma Stork when she lived in Mt. Carmel? Her cupboards were custom fit for her because of her small statue and regular cupboards were too tall for her. I thought that was so cool because they were just right for me but, of course, I was elementary school age at the time.

I remember visiting Grandma Stork when I was really young. It sticks with me b/c she always gave us cookies.

That is a good picture Debbie. Sr. Myrene passed away this year on March 24th I believe, almost a year to the day her sister, Grandma Schettler died. (I believe Sr. Myrene was a year or so older than mom.)

Elaine, I found the obituary online along with other sisters from her order. That is how I found out that she had taken a few years away from the convent to take care of Grandma Stork. Do you know how old Grandma Stork was when she passed away?

I think Grandma Stork was born in 1878, from what mom told me and I thought she died in Oct. of 1972, so that would make her 94 or 95 when she passed away. I remember staying with her one summer to help her when she broke her wrist. I doubt if I was all that much help. but she was a neat lady, so kind, and a great cook.

Must be an inherited trait. I always thought of Grandma that way too. She never raised her voice but it was always clear when you were told not to do something, but yet she was very forgiving. There was always good things to eat when you came to visit.
