Stroke Awareness
Has everyone heard about Mary, John's wife? She had a double stroke and is paralyzed on the left side. She needs your prayers! In response to that, I had this saved and thought I would post it here for everyone.
STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters...
S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *Ask the person to TALK, to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE. (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today.)
R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue . if the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke. If he or she has trouble with any one of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

I visited Mary at the hospital last Tuesday. She did pretty good at talking with me and was able to get me caught up with the kids. Melanie (who has just become engaged) and Greg had left on Monday and Christy was there the rest of the week. She and John had already left when I got there though. They have also since moved her to another hospital to begin therapy. I thought she was pretty alert but you could tell that it was sometimes hard for her to get everything said. Keep her in your prayers that therapy will go well.
