"summer" vacation: the oregon coast

Given Lisa's stellar description of the coast, I thought you guys might enjoy a picture from the trip. No wool sweaters but lots of polar fleece.

"Summer" Vacation

Karla and her daughter Emily (7) are here in Portland visiting us for their "summer" vacation. I think it is more like an really early spring vacation according to the weather. Today we went to the 100th Rose parade downtown and it was 57 degrees with pouring down rain for 3 hours. Fun times! When you are used to 85 degrees and air conditioning, it is a big change to come to this cold damp area. Dang I miss the warm Iowa summer weather! Now we are sitting around the house with a fire in the fireplace with slippers and fleece on. Hello Pacific Northwest.

Tomorrow we are planning on going to the coast (as the natives call it here) to see the ocean. No swim wear is required here! Bring your wool sweater.

Thank you Patti for keeping the birthday thing going on the blog. But, did you really need to put my age on it?

Hello Summer!

I'm going to show my age if I say "I can't believe that it is June already" but it's exactly how I feel. I can't believe that it's time for summer vacation. What a fast year so far. June is one of my favorite months though because the sun rises early so I can begin my day at 5:30 with a walk outside. Enjoy your summers everyone. This blog has been very quiet...what's everyone doing?

A new restaurant opened up in Bennington (suburb of Omaha) called "Schettler's". Turns out that the owner is the son of Ray Schettler (Grandpa's brother). I think his name was David. Dad, Vera, Bob and I tried it out last weekend and they tell me that they have the "best" prime rib. I'm not a prime rib fan so I had the shrimp! It was yummy too. So, if you're ever in the Omaha area, support the relatives and give it a try.
June events that I have on record:

14th - Leo & Kathy's 38th wedding anniversary
15th - Barb (46) (Merle & MaryLou)
17th - Marvin (69)
30th - Lisa (41) (Marv & Fran)
