December Birthdays

1 - Aaron (Leo)

8 - John

22 - Greg (John)

28 - Ron (Don)

30 - Melanie (John)

31 - Tony (Norman)

Happy belated birthday to Aaron! December blew in with an ice storm in our area and we took advantage of being housebound to put up our tree and decorations. Council Bluffs was luckier than our northern neighbors though -- we didn't really get any snow and temps warmed up so most everything melted by the end of the day. This is the view of the icy woods from our deck.

I can truly say that I don't miss the snow and the ice, although many southerners will tell me they want to see snow badly. Unfortunately, when it does snow their inexperience with it is quite evident, i.e. no snowshovels or snowblowers and driving in it . . . well lets just say it would be best if they stayed off the roads altogether. It's quite frightening following someone who doesn't know how to handle their vehicle in snow or ice. It doesn't take but a quarter of an inch for schools and some businesses to close for a "Snow Day".

It's the same out here. We had about 2 inches of snow last January and I think Sebastian ended up getting 2 or 3 snow days out of it. And lots of sledding down our driveway...

Sebastian is luckier than our boys. When and if it snows here and there is a snow day, by 10:00am most of it is gone, the driveway the first to go, and we have a slope for a driveway. The sleds have been hung up since we moved here and all the snowclothes are obsilete(sp?)and much too warm to wear. Somebody here told me they didn't know what snowpants were.

You two make me laugh and feel a little envious about the idea of a winter where snow is a non-event. I like the look of it because a brown landscape does get a little boring, but we also tire of the mess and winter coats! We're all still feeling a little shocked here in Omaha after the shootings at the Westroads Mall. Very sad and hard to grasp. You finally get to the point where you just have to shut off the news and quiet your thoughts.

Patty, were you aware that Donna was included on the lockdown that day in the mall. She was there over her lunch hour when the incident occurred and unable to get back to work until 4PM.

Oh man, I figured that SOMEBODY I knew had to have been there. How sad and frightening...
