what iowans do when it snows in Portland...

We had an atypical snow storm around Christmas this year which I am sure you all heard about. 14 or so inches and an actual white Christmas! When it first started to snow my husband decided we should throw as much as possible on our somewhat steep driveway so the kids could sled while it lasted. Little did we know it was going to keep snowing for a while...

I don't know about Portland, but here in East Tennesse, there is a definite difference between folks from the north and those who are from the south. If and when it snows you can tell who is from where, those from the north will get their snow shovel out and clear off their driveway, whereas, those from the south will just drive through it or over it. While the northerners have a clean driveway, southerns have to deal with a snowpack driveway for a while.

Honestly, in the nearly 10 years we have lived here, I have shoveled twice - and cursed my corner lot each time.

But yeah, they rarely shovel even when the need to. People will just walk in the street instead of the sidewalks here which makes even less sense to me...

I don't believe I've ever seen a snowshovel or snowblower for sale down here. Not much of a demand for those items. Although, they sure would like it to snow, but I try to stay home when southerners are on the road. They lack skill in manuevering around in the stuff. Even rain seems to throw them a loop and right now it's raining like there's no tomorrow. It has been for nearly a month . . . I'd say the draught is over for the south. Now we're dealing with flooding.
